Laura Silveira is a visual artist and arts educator living and working in Woodstock, VT.
With a background in printmaking, painting and fiber arts, her work is always evolving. She combines multiple disciplines to create paintings with a sense of depth, and vibrant textiles. An interest in making things the old way with her hands has lead her to multiple folk crafts, from knitting to basketry. Art is often put on a pedestal as something that's beauty is its only value, but crafts have no need to be beautiful to be practical, and yet history has shown us that some of the most beautiful objects human hands have made have been everyday objects that help us live our lives. That is art.
Art and beauty are how we tell our stories through time, and the tradition of using our hands is worth holding onto, ask any little kid who gushes about the wonderful things their grandma or grandpa has made for them.
This isn’t just for “artists”, it’s for people, it’s for you, and it’s one of the true gifts of being alive.
